As Barack Obama, the US president, announced on Tuesday that he is planning to send 30,000 additional troops into Afghanistan to strengthen the war effort and return control of the country to its leaders in 2011, Afghans voiced their concern.

One Afghan resident from the capital of Kabul said: "Until Afghanistan comes up with its own solution for its own problems,no-one from outside can help. What benefit have we got from the foreign troops already in the country?"

David Chater reports.

  • @EyeOfTheStorm. So afghans are reluctant to change because its not their neighboring Muslims who are helping them? G-D has brought our soldiers to Afghanistan under His will and blessing. Besides which Islamic groups/countries are going to supply them? The Arabs? I dont think so. How about their Persian counterparts in Pakistan and Iran? Out of the question. The only ones who have their 'back' is Turkey and they are mot doing so shavy themselves

  • Why show disrespect to people who are going out of their ways to rebuild afghanistan... if it can be? These soldiers from the US, UK, AUS have left there families and costumes to defend that dirt country. Ya, you might of heard of a soldier killing a little girl or something relevant, but how can you point the big gun at a group soldiers for the actions of the foolish ones? Isnt that the same view point of the whole world towards muslims? So we be at the same level as them?

  • i would be happier still if the will of God were followed and not these wishes of death. The Russians have always had enemies around them, and have always been of a tough nature. Who will win this contest? The most ethical or the most ruthless? They are a broken people who have suffered longer than that, it's containment of dishonor that is necessary, do you pray for war? God is the God of peace in our western religion, but we also share alot of experience in War. Our perseverance is strongest.

  • What do you expect? They are a broken people who have suffered 30 yrs of nonstop war. During the Russian invasion of afghanistan, afghan fighters who were captured would have their limbs cut off 1by1 with a blow torch by the russians.Others were literally skinned alive to give up info

You think the men who have grew up in such brutal violence will be civilized during peace time? All that you mentioned would have vanished in one or two generations when their children brought up in peace grew up

  • I would be the happiest man in the world if the Taleban and Iraqi's got some awesome weapon they could use to kill all those piece of shit american troops.

  • we as civilians as humans should anazlyze these problems cohesively as our and their children are at stake in a prolonged war. we must "accept reality as it is" but also change the way war is waged. Propaganda is strong on both sides and this is the bullshit i want to cut thru and get to the hear of the matter. When i see them confuse religion with guns it sickens me. both ways, the warrior and the religionist are seperate in my view. dangerous are those that can't tell the difference.
