These are organic light emitting diodes that allow for flexibility. These matrix are very expensive but use less energy and produce a better image, as well as a faster response. These can also create transparent displays and will soon be in on car windshields and such. Real cool stuff.

@Coolreaction198 - Apple has worked on flexible screens since the late-1980's, everyone remembers the "knowledge navigator", so you know they'll be the first to have it once the technology is ready. (about 10 years from now)
