A review of some of John Carpenter's best films. I may reupload this at some time as the Carpenter music is quite low in the mix.

  • nice top ten. very well done.

But my favourite John Carpenter film is In The Mouth Of Madness. How come it's not in your top ten?

  • @maxpayne232 I hadn't watched 'In the Mouth of Madness' for a long, long time when I made this list, but I recently revisited it. It's probably his best film from the 90s and perhaps the last 'classic' Carpenter. It's beautifully shot as well, which is surprising because some of his less visually appealing films like Vampires had the same cinematographer as this. In any case, I agree,I'd probably swap Escape From L.A. for that film if I made this list now. Thanks for commenting :)

  • Love you Scottish accent! :)

  • @NZ1967 Thank you very much. Some people seem to hate it, but it's nice to see some people don't mind it so much :)

  • Sentences begin with a capital letter as does the word "English".

  • John Carpenter makes me proud to be from Kentucky. So here is my top 5.

    1. Halloween "Of course"

    2. The Thing

    3. They Live

    4. Escape from NY

    5. The Fog

    4.

  • escape from LA was my favorite

  • woah Einstein of horror :O

  • @Areashiftybun Hihi, :) no, don't swap Escape from L.A., you were the one that made me rewatch it and get into the satirical and parodical elements that made it so good :D thanks, hihih

I've even changed my mind on Ghosts of Mars, first time I saw it I felt most of it was rubbish but later I rewatched it and could see how much of a Carpenter picture it is. At the same time it shares a trashy feeling with Vampires. I wonder what made Carpenter go in that direction with those films.

  • the glasses he wears are called hoffman glasses, im pretty sure that this reffers too the inventor of the drug acid (albert hoffman) coincidence? i think not, wear the glasses- open your mind...

  • @Areashiftybun Well I agree. I love it too and it's probably my favourite because when i saw it as a kid it scared the hell out of me. Today i still think it's a fun movie to watch. Sam Neill was great and i loved the ending.

Unfortunately i didn't see The Carpenter Classics like Halloween and Escape from New York as a child. So they didn't have that much of an impression on me but they're still great films.
