The Songdogs feat. Ian McLagan - Tin Soldier 2005 live
(Original by Small Faces 1967)
Ian McLagan was a member of the Small Faces and performed organ, guitar, vocals.

I am a little tin soldier
that wants to jump into your fire
You are a look in your eye,
a dream passing by in the sky

Well, I don't understand
And all I need is treat me like a man
'Cause I ain't no child, treat me like I am
I got to know that I belong to you
I'll do anything that you want me to
I'll sing any song that you want me to sing to you

I don't need no, listen
I don't need no aggravation
I just got to make you, I said listen
I just got to make you, my occupation
I got to know that I belong to you
I'll do anything that you want to do
I'll sing any song that you want me to sing to you

All I need is your whispered hello,
smiles melting the snow, nothing hurt
Your eyes, they're deeper than time,
sing of love that won't rhyme without words

So now I've to understand
I need help to show me things the same
So tell me your love before mine fades away
I got to know that I belong to you
I'll do anything that you want to do
I'll sing any song that you want me to sing to you
Oh yeah
Oh yeah

I just want some reaction
Someone to give me satisfaction
All I wanna do
Is sleep with you
'Cause I love you

  • Hmmm - should have been good with an original band member on board but this was pretty leaden and laboured compared with the fantastic 1967 SF version - just goes to show how great Steve, Ronnie and Kenney were I guess...

  • ooooh...pretty awful

  • Mac would have done a better job singing this. Seriously, though, if you can't sing very well, don't do Steve Marriott songs. Just don't.

  • a good leason in how to make a good song go wrong its clear that dude cant sing steve would be turning in his grave.

  • steve would be turning in his grave what a mess ..in the words of dylan know your song before you sing it well in saying they you best not for you cant sing lol this is just well what can i say its pure rubbish thats about it .

  • I don't need no aggravation either, but no one will ever come close to a Steve Marriott original. That's just a fact.

  • Macca if you agreed to that pish you must be hard up!Poor you and your self respect.

  • Jeezo is this live version even at the same speed as the original??I'd stamp on "vocalist's" throat and slink away in embarassment!what a feckin joke!

  • Ian... do yourself a favour join the Small Fakers or if this is the best you can do retire.... and Yes ive followed you from 1963 so i know the score

  • Phantastisch, wie die Songdogs zusammen mit Ian McLagan an den Tasten diesen Small-Faces-Hammer-Klassiker performten!!!! Ian McLagan... dieses Small-Faces-Urgestein rockt!!!!!

  • Spot on mate, dont think the original will ever be equalled.R.I.P. guys.love you.
