  • Steinman and Meat Loaf were always at their best when they were working together. Steinman's got the bombastic songs. Meat Loaf's got the voice to carry those songs. Best team ever.

  • For my money, this is the better version of this song, Meat did it quite well live in the 80's but never captured what Jim did with this song(and the less said about the piss poor Bat 3 version the better). Jim IMO simply has a bette voice, or at least a better voice for his material, not to say that I dont love me some of the loaf, cause I do, I just perfer Steinman.

  • This recoding easily eclipsed Meatloaf's later rendering of many of the same songs. So many excellent musicians supporting Jim on this one, it is absolutely superior on so many levels. Besides, Meatloaf had a lot on his plate at the time. (Heh heh!)

  • Classic rock !!!

  • @EliasAlucard i absolutely love Rory's voice.

  • @torchwood11 yeah, Steinman definitely had a much better voice. His voice was not only more beautiful, but also Steinman knew how to hit the notes very accurately. The only downside with Steinman's voice is that it wasn't as powerful as Meatloaf's voice. But other than that, I take Steinman's voice any day of the week over Meatloaf. And besides, Steinman had much better singers than Meatloaf, like Holly Sherwood and Rory Dodd.

  • @BlackMoonLilith Oops, I meant to say after the first Bat and Bad for Good, everything he's done is at least partially reworked from old projects into his new projects, such as Bat II and Tanz der Vampire. See also his album with his created female group, Pandora's Box, named Original Sin, which has been heavily mined for everything from the film adaptation of The Shadow to Bat II to Celine Dion.

  • @debfan74 Jim Steinman is very, very, very fond of reusing other stuff he's written. Nearly everything he's gone after the first Bat and Bad for Good is at least partially reworked into new projects. For example, another part of this song, the "Godspeed, speed us away" part, is reused in Nowhere Fast from the film Streets of Fire.

  • Jim's voice is not that bad....I have heard of this for years and got curious on this and so I looked it up...thanks for having this for us to listen to....I did however hear a line he used on Total Eclipse, Giving off sparks.....but I must say this guy has a talent.....like nobody...I would like to see his work done in a huge musical!! Would be AWESOME!!! I must say Jim and Meatloaf are close vocally

  • @daveyboy4050 No They are both good at what they do. Meat is an amazing singer. Steinman is a musical genius!

  • The best ever Meat Loaf sorry but Steinman was much much better The sad fact is that people expected him to sound exactly like Meat Loaf, that was a bit of a tall order.

  • i tota lly agree with garyjohna,i was in the royl navy @ the time this came out,was into meatloaf until tonite didnt realise meat covered it..awesome.i had the exact vinyl album, god knows where it is,but remember how good it was.going down memory lane now thanx to youtube..god bless you
