Don't think many people know this, but most of the doctor's personalitys are that of the actor and the actor not just acting out a personality, they are based on themselves, they play themselves in a way, that's why, when tom baker says he's the doctor, he is, in fact, the doctor, it's true when doctor who says "I was a differen't man back then", they all make the role their own.
