Gimme, gimme, gimme a man after midnight ... and let it be RP! :-) Here he is live on MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, 5 October 1979. Lyrics below.

No copyright abuse intended, but if the owners mind, the video will be deleted, of course.

Wooah

A hot summer night, fell like a net
I've gotta find my baby yet
I need you to soothe my head
Turn my blue heart to red

Chorus:
Doctor, doctor give me the news
I've got a bad case of lovin' you
No pill's gonna cure my ill
I've got a bad case of lovin' you

A pretty face don't make no pretty heart
I learned that buddy, from the start
You think I'm cute, a little bit shy
Momma, I ain't that kind of guy

(Chorus)

Wooah

I know you like it, you like it on top
Tell me momma are you gonna stop

You had me down, 21 to zip
Smile of Judas on your lip
Shake my fist, knock on wood
I've got it bad and I've got it good

(Chorus)

  • @aplantage You are probably right. I do belive that the singing part was live but the music was not even close. Anyway it is i a shame that he died so young , he was a great entertainer and I liked the dark haired girls that danced with him in his videos,

  • @fendertelecaster8225 With "lip sync" I thought you meant the singing. Can't the music have been played from tape and Robert have been singing live?

  • @aplantage i HAVE BEEN PLAYING LEAD GUITAR FOR OVER 37 YEARS AND I assure you that the chords and melodies and lead licks that are on that song was not what the guitar player was playing. At one point he was not even playing the correct phrase that was coming out of the speakers. Robert seemed to be singing the words in perfect time but the musicians were not.

  • @fendertelecaster8225 Midnight Special is said to have been one of the few TV shows with live performances at the time, and this is a version of the song that I haven't heard elsewhere, so I believe it is live and not lip sync.

  • Although this was obviously lip sync at its best, Robert Palmer was a true rocker with amazing talent.
