Handling Cults
1. Knowing Your Scripture
a. Without a knowledge of scripture, they will be hard to refute.
2. Ask them about what their Core gospel is: The Paul Washer Way
a. Ask them and have them describe it (They will usually bring in their "Gospel" works based salvation).
b. Once done, repeat what you heard back to them. This way you don't make mistakes on understanding them.
c. "Just so you understand" repeat it back to them a few times so they have no excuse.
d. Read 1 Corinthians 15
e. Take them immediately to Galatians 1:8-9
3. Staying on Topic
a. Cults will hop from topic to topic in isegesis (the taking out of context) to try and sway you by disorder.
b. Walking them through one of your points, or their points at a time will keep them focused on what the text is saying.
c. For example, for those who are works based salvation, walk them through Galatians 3 (the whole chapter) and ask them to focus on that specific topic.
you think Islam is the product of Christianity?

It's obvious to most of us that their beliefs are ridiculous and they deviate from mainstream religions...Unfortunately, social influence plays a major role in keeping cult members blind :(...even if you put the evidence right in their face they refuse to accept it

@Nazam44 Go read Genesis 15, Habakuk 2, Galatians 3, Ephesians, Romans, Hebrews 11, and Jesus' healings. It is all done through faith. Oh, and take out the word "continues in faith" and it changes everything that was said in 1 Timothy 2. So, you must look at the surrounding message of the bible. You cant pick and choose just one form of the bible for your favor. You must look at what else Paul said.

@xchampx Faith alone is not found no where in Timothy. We're told in chapter 2 of 1 Timothy that women are not to take part in the charismatic activity of the assembly or exercise authority. As long as women perform their role as wives and mothers in faith their salvation is assured but if they don't then they have no such guarantee.

@Nazam44 I see what you are saying, but he is not saying that if you give childbirth you are saved. I put the emphasis in caps. Faith is the keyword i wanted to pull out. Paul's message is consistent and quite clear, so is Jesus' you are saved by your faith and your faith alone. True faith produces good works.

@xchampx Meaning what ever the author meant he did not mean what Paul meant when he says that a person is saved through faith alone. Whereas the author of Timothy is saying that for women, at least, are saved by faith and maternity. BTW, I think in the past I try to add you as a friend but I accidently pressed the "Block User" button.

@Nazam44 "It hard to know what the author exactly meant but it certainly does not mean what Paul meant. " You kinda confused me here....This is like me saying: "I said this, but i did not really say it."

@Nazam44 "I don't remember you mentioning this specific verse in the video." I never mentioned specific verses. I was talking explicitly about cults taking verses out of context. That is was I was referring to. You are misusing the text.

@xchampx I don't remember you mentioning this specific verse in the video. But for Paul salvation is brought about only through the death of Jesus. But for the author of Timothy, for women at least, they will be saved by bearing children provided that they have faith.
