If a bear was going to eat me, I'd use a 20 round 308 carbine and shoot it in the neck, head, and chest. Knives or handguns wont do anygood when fighting grizzlies. You'll just wound the animal or aggrivate it. Bear spray is useless when there is too much wind and it might even get in your own face and burn ur eyes. Best weapon against bear is a AK47 or 308 carbine. Something that has a lot of rounds and is strong.

Yes Treadwell made a difference, he made every little child that watched his story believe you can walk up to a wild animal and just touch it. The other side of his story will not be aired however. The real results will only be known by a few people who stand to profit in someway by keeping this myth alive.

He also took 11 bear with him by removing their fear of man and making them dependent upon him for food. He also committed fraud to get funding for his summer vacations. Thank God that bad season came when it did or Treadwell would still be out there fucking up the Coastal Brown population.

There's a reason that Treadwell's cronies demanded that most of the informational about his demise and all footage not aired or in the film be returned to them: To cover up the fraud that he was.

He went when the bear were fat and lazy for 12 good growing seasons and got out before the bear went into the hyper fall feed. The 13th year he stayed too long after a bad season and became the secondary food source that the bear always looked at him as. Your last sentence is just idiotic, very few humans who encounter bear get attacked and/or killed. Treadwell was a fraud and a liar, as well.

@downy62 It takes a lot more than plain old luck to survive 12 summers in bear territory, don't you think? I'm sure he knew what he was doing. But, bears aren't humans and he didn't understand them fully and obviously it didn't work too well for him in the 13th summer. Even still, to say he was plain old lucky would be utterly wrong, imo. How many humans you know that would encounter bears for even one day, let alone one summer, let alone 12 summers, and still be alive? Luck???????
