This tuesday I'm getting my first real (jazz-)piano-lesson. But I already taught myself some (jazz-)piano, I'm playing for a half year now, and your knowledge helped my progression in playing jazz on piano.

Just a little correction to your good job, at 3:35 (if I' m not wrong) about, the LH voicing you play is a Bb7(#9) instead of a b9 as you wrote. Cheers

Interestingly, he used this intro (idea) on both versions of 'Nature Boy' I have. One with a trio, and another solo version he did when on Marion McPartland's 'Piano Jazz' show. I guess its what we all do - 'steal' (or adapt) ideas from other performers - even from past performances of our own!

Go to the enhanced Youtube version and you can see clearly what is happening - using the whole tone scale (the one with G in it) as augmented triads (1,3 and sharp5) descending in whole steps. There is a full transcription on my DVD. Go to my website for details
