  • In 1973, the desinstitutionalization of mentally ill persons is also a similar movement. Some supportive to independent living counsellor positions were created so One counsellor could help persons become independent in the society. Again, it costs less to have them in appartment than in the hospital. I'm presently a coordinator for a housing first program in Alberta, was a probation officer and a support to independent living counsellor. Position are created because of financial gain...SAD

  • The same is true for Probation Officers. Their position has been created to get the offenders out of jail so they can be productive members of society...good idea?...Maybe in a perfect world where offenders do not re-offend. The position is there because it creates a financial advantage.

  • It's an awsome program...but again, society waited until they figured out a financial gain to implement it. It costs an average of 40 000$/year to sustain a homeless person compared to 24 000$ for a housed one.
