I'm not sure what people's problems are. I heard The Matrix was heavily inspired by Ghost in the Shell as well.
In fact, a lot of recent Sci-Fi movies drew some inspiration from Ghost in the Shell. Either that or Aliens.

@MrBolibob Halo was being developed at the same time, and IIRC, uses the same engine.

This and Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. Proof that the west can take anime, turn it into an action game and actually make it work. Sucks that such games are underrated though (save for a shit ton of MMORPGs).
Now I'm wondering which anime studio did they turn to for making this intro sequence (definitely not the guys behind Halo Legends).

i dunno why the idiots put a thumbs down on you when you spoke the truth lol. ONI is a great game with a fairly original concept hands down, but doesn't change the fact that alot of the elements from Ghost in the shell are put in this game, including the hero's looks. I guess alot of butthurt people.
