OK. You've packed your suitcase per the suggestions in my What to pack in your suitcase for the High Times Cannabis cup in Amsterdam column. I hope you packed light.
Now it's time to pack your carry on. Use a regular backpack. You'll probably have it on your back all week while you do the coffee shop crawl so don't bring some huge camping pack, just a regular school pack.

With layovers, potential delays and the long flight across the Earth you may need to survive on the contents of your carry on for up to 24 hours. Here's what you need to have in your carry on:

Drugs.

If you take any prescription medications you'll want to have those with you. Your prescriptions need to be yours and have your name on the original bottle from the pharmacy. Do not bring cannabis. There will be plenty of weed in Amsterdam.

Have your valid passport, other forms of ID, credit cards and cash on your body. Don't pack any of these things in your luggage.

Pack some things to occupy your time - your mp3 player, a book, the latest copy of High Times magazine, a cribbage board and cards, pocket Frogger, what ev - it's gonna be a long journey. Bring a few things to do so you're not bored in 10 minutes after you've finished browsing the Sky Mall mag.

If you haven't done so yet, go to a book store to buy a pocket guide on Amsterdam. The long flight is a good time to learn a few Dutch words and to get acquainted with the magnificent city.

Pack some snacks so you can munch along the way. Airplane food is small and might not be the gourmet fare your sophisticated palette is used to. You'll want to have some of your favorite snacks. And for the sake of your seat neighbor (or for yourself, your neighbor may have stank breath) bring some gum or mints.

You should also have your toothbrush and your toiletries in your carry on. If you don't fly much or you're not sure what's currently allowed in your carry on or what size zip lock bags you need to put your 3.4 ounce liquid bottles or less (by volume) in check www.tsa.gov. They take you step by step thought the screening process.

I always pack an extra pair of socks, underwear and a t shirt in my carry on. Dress warm for your flight. It's cold up there in the sky and when you arrive in Amsterdam it'll be cold too. Have a hoodie you can put on if you're cold and take off if you're hot. And you're gonna want to have your warm winter waterproof coat with you not packed. OK
Now you're packed. Make sure you have the name address of your hotel written down somewhere. Put your name and info on tags on your luggage and also somewhere inside in a pocket in your bag.

And finally you should pack your camera, camcorder,and a journal and a pen so you can record you Cannabis Cup adventure.
