This major design project was done for the first year Engineering Design course ES050 at The University of Western Ontario. The goal was to design something to help the environment with a certain size and cost limitation. We focused small and tackled the idea of capturing the kinetic energy from a moving human body and converting it to free electrical energy. A shoe was designed to capture the energy from a human step by means of electromagnetism. As the user steps on fluid filled pouches in the sole of the shoe, a magnet is pushed through a coil. This generates electricity which is then stored in an onboard battery to either be used later or to directly charge portable electronics such as cell phones and mp3 players. The project was made in Solidworks.
bit easyer to just turn gyms into powerstations considering alot of people go to the gym and expend massive amounts of kenetic energy which is compleatly wasted
just a thought

@JimiShearer Thats a great idea too and does have alot of potential. We narrowed our focus and scope on smaller and portable concepts.
