There are beautiful natural waterfalls hiding under the lake here. The city of Cuyahoga Falls was named after these falls. When the dam is removed, those falls will return. Let's hope it happens soon.
dec 16 you are right. never lived up to its intended use. rainfall was heavy in the early part of the 20th century. screwed up by not doing a long-term survey of the river flow. original powerhouse (about 1700 ft downstream- bricks now in the riverbed) wasn't even useful enough to power the local streetcars reliably. ohio edison created a need for the dam by locating a power house above the reservoir- so they've been deceiving and polluting for years. what to do?
Love the park. Fabulous hiking. Hate the bloody dam. Wish it could be dismantled and the Cuyahoga Falls restored to its natural state. It was never sufficient for hydroelectric generation.
