Time Lapse Cincta Silk Moth Caterpillar Spins Cocoon

A Rothschildia cincta (Silk Moth) caterpillar is just starting to spin its cocoon. This time-lapse sequence follows its progress overnight, non-stop for 11 hours without a break. The entire process lasts nearly 3 days but only the first 12 hours or so can be viewed from outside the cocoon.

In about 9 days, the caterpillar transforms into a pupa, and then one year (or more) later emerges as an adult moth... I don't have footage of this species, but I DID do a time lapse cut-away view of another species, which you can see here:
