Jami inherited this Seth Thomas mantel clock from her grandmother. It does the westminster chime. It was made sometime around 1908-1922. All the parts were removed and sitting in a box, and it had an electronic insert when we received it. I have been trying to clean it up and get it put back together and working again. I gave it a scrub with some gun cleaning solvent, an ammonia bath, and then re-lubed it. Everything but the time chain seams to be working now; it seams to be seized up. Probably needs new bushings. Strangely it just started playing the quarter after chime during the hourly strike, it didn't do that last time I put it together...

  • I can fix this. I have fixed several of my own. It isn't too hard in most of the time. Sometimes it is just a matter of adjusting the wire rods so they hit the bell slightly different to let them resonate. This one is off stricke a little. It wouldn't be too hard to fix. Give it to me!!!!

  • Give it away, hahaha!

But I do think it needs more than bending the wires. The time chain is seized... For the video I made it look like it was working by back-winding a tiny bit, enough to tick for a couple minutes or so.

  • this is not westminsterchime

  • Yeah, I agree, this is one clock worth getting a pro to fix. My dream to find one of these someday in bad shape; They're too expensive for my blood!

  • Your clock looks like it needs a lot of work, but it's a very desirable "Sonora" clock made by Seth Thomas. It's worth getting restored.
