i imagine that those mountains are so high, you could fit new york city down there and it would look like a small gray smear in between the ridges. thats how deep and thats how high the trench is!

@MeLikeGeiter yeah, wasn't sure about the date, but Swiss design...I always thought it was a French design. Learn something new everyday.:)

@GriffithAMPS It was in January 23rd 1960. It was Swiss-designed and built in Italy. Acquired by the US. Navy. manned by Jacques Piccard (who co-designed the submersible along with his father, Auguste Piccard) and USN Lieutenant Don Walsh. Look it up on Wikipedia - Challenger Deep ;P
