People who complain about "new and original" probably don't read TVTropes. It's very, very hard these days to make something that's original, and frankly, I would rather see an old idea re-imagined and executed well then see new shit get stuffed down the toilet.
For conventional movies and TV shows this is especially true; all of the building blocks of modern entertainment - characters, plot, setting, etc. - probably existed in some other series that has its own context.

It's like the more money we come across
The more problems we see

And they think that closing down Megaupload is going to fix it all for them.
Oh the laughs we have when TomSka has more talent then 99% of Hollywood.
*Company tries something new*
Fans: "WAAAAHHHH THIS IS STOOPID WE JUST WANT THE SAME FORMULA!!"
*Company does nothing new*
Fans: "WAAAAHHH THE COMPANY IS MILKING US AND GIVING US NOTHING NEW!!"
No one wins.

@SOLIDOLDSNAKE1 Arcanas are a more meaningful option than gems. Why don't people play Arcana Heart then? Because many people don't even know what they themselves want. Their words are totally unrelated to their actions.

so what's the point of this, the industry lacks creativity? then what about sfxt? it introduces a new concept to fighting games. a horrible concept yes, but still a new concept. or maybe there already was a fighting game that had an rpg-like system that i've never heard of that was buried under all those street fighters, tekkens, soul caliburs and king of fighters that saturate the market.

@ERUTROTSINEP Well my displeasure can be summed with this-
Employee: "Ok so we have both SF AND Tekken in one game. We can do whatever we want and it will still sell. So let's elevate the genre to new heights of REAL complexity!"
Boss: "Umm... No. We use this game to push a new model of DLC consumption into fighting games and elevate the genre to new heights of leeching people out of their money. And start releasing public statements that this customization is the future of FGs!"

People need to understand that in the same way the they'll see brands like SF, MK, Marvel etc. have the biggest success in the west, in Japan a lot of the games are also based on popular brands to reduce the financial risk- Melty Blood, AquaPazza, Shin Koihime Musou etc. etc. and this is also why you see tits everywhere in the genre.
