You get a quick glimpse at how much Casals revolutionized the way these suites, and Bach in general, were played in the difference between the student's approach and his, and by his comments on "the purists"! Not only did he use that staccato, but he played the dance movements as real dances (as he once said, "Bach must have had some gypsy blood in him!")...Listen to Fournier (et al) play the "Courante" and observe how closely they follow Casals' blueprint.

what a stupid thing to say, the intonation in this video is fine, its just really poor video quality that might make it sound slightly out of tune, even though it clearly isnt to a well trained ear!

Agreed,perhaps people these days judge intonation by the tuning of keyboards- without realising that keyboards are permanently out of tune.
