Testing my recording setup after a small update - what a great excuse for showing off the stuff that I usually only get to do when alone blowing off steam.

Recorded with Cubase LE, Macbook, Fast Track Ultra, pair of Rode NT-5, Shure SM57 and AKG D112. Basic compression on all tracks. Bass and snare mics are turned off on some of the "jungle" parts. Featuring a Sonor 10"x2" jungle snare.

  • @crusharush The overheads are placed one above hihat/snare and the other one above ride/floor tom. I measure (with a pair of sticks or piece of cable) that the overheads are at the same distance from the snare to minimize phase problems. Kick mic is at a hole in the resonant head, pointing toward the beater. Most of it is in the tuning, really. I don't find mixing/post-processing very enjoyable so I try to get the most out of the kit acoustically. (also more fun to play!)

  • @crusharush also can you do a video on how you set up your mics? I need to get that sound when i start recording!

  • that is the best sounding drumkit in the entirety of youtube!

  • @thraXn Haha, it's definitely almost the same as New Fang and I didn't realize that before! I use that beat on one of our songs, made it according to our guitar player's description but it was obviously subconsciously influenced by Dave Grohl :)

  • @Adam94in The fast groups are: floor tom - rack tom - kick - kick, sticking is right hand, left hand, right foot, left foot.

  • 1:45 Them Crooked Vultures!

  • What pattern do you use at 2:32?
