Gibberellins (GA) control growth and development in higher plants by promoting the destruction of growth repressing proteins through binding to a receptor protein called GID1 (Gibberellin Insensitive Dwarf1). GA is bound to GID1 in a deep binding pocket covered by a lid made of the N-terminal switch region of the GID1. This then interacts with the amino-terminal DELLA domain of GAI (Gibberellin Insensitive) protein leading to the conformational changes of GAI and its destruction (2ZSH.pdb; Murase et al. Nature v456, p459).
