@plaidguitar18 1. I'm not siding with anyone, but if I were a known & famous artist and have no particular melody in mind I'd rather copy a song that is unknown & "crappy" (let's be fair, that song of theirs was good).
2. The lyrics yes, but not the melody & composition. When they were writing that, Creaky Boards released the song.
3. Just because it's indie it's shitty. Just because it's not popular it's shitty. WOW! Guessing you think only mainstream musicians are talented 1s.

oh god stop with the phony radio voice
how hard is it to go on the radio and talk in your normal voice?

Theft progression from newest to oldest: Coldplay's "Vida La Viva->The Songs I Didn't Write by Creaky Boards-> If I Could Fly by Joe Satriani->Frances Limon by Enanites Verdes->Ding Dong Song by Gunther->J'en al Marre by Alizee->Hearts by Marty Balin->Love/Heaven by Cat Steven->Dirty Diaper Blues by Baby Cheeks. Which seems fitting because the whole thing stinks.

the singer from creaky boards was not implying that coldplay had ripped off his song completely. he was showing how a song so similar to his received much more acclaim simply because it had coldplay's name to it

gay persons chance of getting aids isnt very likely.. so your not very accurate and spot on with your facts.

ummm how am i fucking retarded? you're retarded!! Douce!!! my facts are as accurate and spot on as a gay persons chances of getting aids (Which is almost positively so)!! So fuck off!! Creeky Boards had no claim whatsoever and im totally going to do the same thing next time coldplay releases an album!! and just so we are clear...U R A Wanker!!
-
OKay, your fucking retarded. Get your facts right...
-
Ok
#1 Creeky Boards sucks and Chris martin wouldn't copy something so crappy
#2 Viva la Vida was writen a year b4 this douchers stupid concert
#3 I think Ill write a shitty song and in a year or so when Chris Martin writes another album, ill claim plagiarism and go viral on youtube

I like the coldplay song better but these coincedences are hard to ignore.
"Music Plagiarism" is a very overused term that, considering artistic expression, shouldn't even be touched on in this particular case. Everyone who knows anything about music knows that there are only so many possible progressions for any set of chords and just because the melody of two songs sound similar does not mean you can throw these allogations around. If it was this easy, the entire rap industry would be a shitstorm of lawsuits.

but there are many, many, many ways to arrange those three notes in a rythm, over different chords, at a certain tempo, etc. So the possibility of two songs being very similar is much smaller than you make it out to be.
Could this be a coincidence? Sure. But it's not as simple as sharing the same notes in a melody.
