That's how Whitey ordered pizza from the radio booth. On a couple of occasions, he asked if the people at Celebre's were listening, and about 15 minutes later, pizza showed up at the Vet!

The Phils called Rich onto the carpet, saying that he couldn't give Celebre's a free plug because they weren't a sponsor. Rich used the birthday loophole!

Celebre's at 15th St. & Packer Ave. has AWESOME pizza.

I liked listening to Whitey because he would announce the games as if he was playing in them. Old habit, I guess.

Harry Kalas misses his best friend's voice to this day, and so do I.

I wrote a poem called "Harry In The Hall" back in 2002 - I touched on their friendship twice in that poem. Kalas, a poet himself, loved the poem!

For inspiration Harry did turn

To his best friend, Rich Ashburn

From those two, a lot could be learned

A greater friendship could not be earned

The last verse went:

Although Whitey could not be there, what a shame

Harry Kalas is where he belongs, in the Hall of Fame

I miss Richie's voice. He sounded the same even back then. Him and Harry Kalas were great together.
