An old friend, and a much missed one. I used to drink with him in Soho and sometimes East Anglia. Thank goodness I've got the memories. His grandson is childishly naughty too! Refreshing, hope he goes on to be as successful.
When this one left us, the lights seemed to go out temporarily. the exhibition in the NPG is worth taking a look too. A votre sante old friend xx

Nice music, but seemed like a bit of a pompous exhibitionist.

Aside from Armstrong, did any jazz singer have such a huge personality?

saw GM in the sixties with the mick mulligan band at bolsover and again with john chilton in the nineties at chesterfield, still a great performer his talent as a jazz singer cannot be replaced.
