Pilot opening scene from the February 1960 episode of the Danny Thomas Show (aka Make Room for Daddy) that introduced Andy Griffith as Mayberry's town sheriff Andy Taylor. Note the 1959 Ford squad car, which was replaced on Episode 1 by a 1960 Ford. Note: Fair use and education re: classic TV are the purpose here, thanks!

  • Anybody else noticed that the cars don't have windshields or windows? lol

  • @maxpowers518 Yes, good eye, I guess that was a very common practice on TV shows. I have also noticed that windshields were sometimes missing on The Beverly Hillbillies (Chryslers) and Green Acres (Lincolns), the production crews must have done that to avoid the reflection of the indoor studio lights. Sometimes the cars were "dulled" up, either on the paint finish or the chrome trim, which looked especially odd on what were supposed to be brand new current cars.

  • They must have Andy standing in a trench. Danny Thomas was only about 5' 7" tall.

  • Does anyone know where we can view the entire pilot?

  • @jed6271 I have seen that done to the 1955 Pontiac on I Love Lucy

  • I love Andy. He makes a great PLO. LOL.....

  • @mrchopperking1 On Oprah, they had the cast of Saturday Night Live, the elders. Chevy Chase, Jane Curtain. Tracey Morgan was on and said that when his dad got back from Vietnam that he would watch and laugh at the skits on SNL and he appreciated it. Chevy and Jane were touched. Love Land Shark!
