Hunting dog training drills - Labrador Retriever

http://www.sitmeanssit.com Fred Hassen and a Labrador Retriever are shown here doing some basic retrieval drills for running straight lines, and running through barriers on the way out, and returning straight. One whistle means for the dog to 'sit' and three consecutive whistles means for the dog to return. You also see the running of straight lines from a few different angles as well. This is lengthened out with a little time, and the combination of the jump as a 'visual target', linked with the communication of the remote, will teach the dog to go straight, and that the handler can keep the dog straight. The raising of the arms for the dog to turn and go 'back', is used that the dog turn in the direction of the hand that is being raised. In this drill, you see the dog going back to both sides. You also see a little drill of the dog quickly going over chairs, and returning back to the handler. With the target behind the dog, the dog will learn to return straight. These basic drills can be used in any sort of dog training, whether it be police k9, or AKC, or pet dog training. in teaching dogs to come back straight.

I wish I could train my dog to be like that. Mine knows enough to retrieve the duck, but she'll run off and try to bury it once she hits shore.
