Ragam: Ranjani Talam: Aadi
This dance occupies the central position of today's performance.
This is the most complex, interesting, and elaborate item of the day.
In this dance Deepa's concentration, stamina and artisitic competence are all magnificently expressed.
Deepa is expected to alternate techniques and facial expressions effectively while maintaining the emotional intensity of the song. She creates an impression of beauty, grandeur, and profundity while depicting the changing moods, she introduces all elements of Bharathanatyam. Everything is worked up to an exciting climax in which bhava, raga, and tala are all absolutely synchronized. The building up is slow and cautious, in its climax or final part of the song in exquisite dance-patterns of great variety and beauty.
This Varnam describes the greatness of Goddess Parvati, Laxmi, Durga, and Saraswati.
It is always done in an Arangetram. The Varnam is considered to be the central item of a Bharatnatyam concert, and also the most difficult since it combines pure dance, expression and drama.

This poor girl was not ready for this Arangetrum. She has so much talent..if only she would have waited a while. Where is the ardamundi, complete jathis (she falters and it is sloppy, abhinaya? Even her attami looks strained? Clearly, her guru's fault for allowing her to perform prematurely. She has skill but she needs to practice a lot more..

Since when do shoulders move during attami? And why all this bouncing? Learn to discipline your body.
