He later became Vicar of Olney near Milton Keynes then worked as an abolitionist with politician William Wilberforce and poet William Cowper who was a parishioner. Rev Dr Billy Graham (b 1918) is an American Evangelist who openly denounced apartheid while in South Africa in 1973 and is a pastor to US Presidents. Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr (1929-1968) was the foremost civil rights leader in the USA when he was assassinated. Mahalia Jackson (1911-1972) is considered the best ever Gospel singer. Nelson Mandela (b 1918) endured decades of apartheid prison in South Africa before emerging without rancour in 1994 as a national leader. Damon Runyan (1880-1946) wrote of Sky Masterson (Marlon Brando), a gambler who read the Gideon Bible, fell for Salvationist Sarah Brown (Jean Simmons) and reformed. Grace brings Reconciliation - Blessed are the Peacemakers.
