i can definitely think of advantages to having these. If you have 100 books at home you have to store them somewhere. Here you have them all on the device. It cuts down on all the paper spent producing books. When you go on vacation and want to bring a few books with you now all you need is to bring this not 3 heavy books to lug around.

@JULIANVIPS well i heard the kindles battery is really really long and that with out wi-fi or 3g it can last to a month

I am hoping to get the newest one for christmas, then I wouldn't need a bookshelf for all my books but one question. Is the books only like novels and stuff? It won't be able to get like manga books for example.
