  • Who cares about medals when you're dead. At least he lived for something greater than himself...

  • Never mind the diss,Aroha mai!

  • What a load of crap.

"he hasn't been able to rest properly because he's never had the recognition that he deserves"

Bullshit. He served his country and he expected nothing.

"15 to 20 New Zealand Victoria Cross winners that were down graded".

Crock of shit. The VC is the rarest of awards, in 150 years of the British Imperial system less than 1400 VCs have been handed out and NZ got 25 of them, Australia got 96 and there is only enough metal left to make around 90 more VC medals.

  • king george 6th said no more victoria crosses to be awarded before haane manahi was appointed for bravery...all Maori's in NZ know that manahi got the victoria cross in true spirit...so what's the problem???

  • "over my left hand shoulder" looks over his right

  • He was our bravest soldier. The nearest equivalent to him is Gunny Manilla John Basilone. These two were not phoney officers. They were real men.

  • Ah Had the military papers of James O'Dwyer. 28th Batt. mistakinly sent too me but I lost it. They said he spent one year in military hospital after being blown up and all his flesh takin off his body. He twas Half Samoan/Irish. Do any one have his war sheet o' Papers? Thanks.

  • @ymhjrgjhjurthuujbjke yea man maori pride watt

  • What about Charlie Shelford?

He defeated a whole Enemy camp alone with a Machine gun and a Grenade.

After that, he didnt get his VC he deserved. He got another medal but he said shove it to the generals and prime minister.

After that, he stole a jeep, disappeared for awhile, came back with 2 jeeps with a load of enemy supplies.

  • sammi. Thanks. I think that Audie Murphy also got the MOH for holding off a German batallion single handed. Let us not compare. These two guys both deserve our praise - no question. To me, Manihi should have been given the VC - no question. The fact that wounded soldiers were bayoneted is irrelevant. Obviously wounded men can still kill you! It is clear that the British Crown was using this as a lame excuse. War is a nasty business and I'm sure that both Maori and the Italians had great men.
