Journalist and author Chris Hedges delivers a lecture based on his book Death of the Liberal Class. Hedges argues that there are five pillars of the liberal establishment - the press, liberal religious institutions, labor unions, universities and the Democratic Party - but that these institutions have failed the constituents they purport to represent.

A very narrow set of analytical skills indeed. It is strange and sickening how privilege masks itself as intellectually valuable and is accepted and interpreted that way by the media. We need to organize and allow not only Chris Hedges and Noam Chompsky, but also Vandana Shiva and those people who already embody the grassroots who are working tirelessly to counter the ill effects of globalism and elitism. Elitism should not be mistaken for actually being elite.

is your username? Bwahahahaha! You have chosen to align yourself with perhaps America's most morally vacuous, corrupt politician. Calling Richard Nixon your "lord" speaks volumes about your own moral vacuity. It doesn't surprise me then that your opinion of Chris Hedges and others from the religious left is as equally morally vacuous and blind. Richard Nixon would be proud of you. You've learned your lessons well.

To anyone depressed by this lecture I present these words: One should not strum the harp of sorrow so loudly that one cannot hear the horns of hope when they sound. And to all those in fear of the demise of their salary, remember that the skilled hands of hardworking people are always in demand.

As a radical I am naturally hesitant to criticize our liberal allies, BUTTT we need to combat liberalism as it is kind of a soft subtle division among politically-minded people. For example, liberal Democrats who fantasize about infiltrating and transforming the Democratic Party.

We must completely break away from the two-party system and not compromise our humane principles for the sake of a shaky unity. To be Radical is to go to the roots of matters. @Peta_de_Aztlan

Chris Hedges is brilliant and tells the truth as he sees it. We must each think for ourselves, heed our feelings and when we think of the existential world outside of our individual consciousness we need to think and analyze on a global scale.

Remember: Power is being able to define connected reality and change it in a desired manner. Sometimes different understandings of terms causes confusion and clouds out clarity. The Liberal Class is not a regular economic class.

The five pillar of Isla...-er... liberalism.

The press, most Universities, and the Democratic party are all doing reasonably well, but liberal Christianity and labor unions are on their last legs.

The five pillars of conservatism are farmers and rural voters, most religious institutions, big business, gun rights groups, and the Republican party.

Right now, the only one that is badly weakened is the rural vote. I'd say the Republicans too, but they have the House of Representatives...

I agree. The leftists are essentially totalitarians at heart and they need dogmas. Frauds like Hedges and Chomsky have made a good living telling them what they want to hear. Oh, how courageous of these two. No need for armed bodyguards like those who up speak about the head-lopping limb-choppers. You know, expose the Nazi Mullahhood. No, they find all manner of rationale for men who target infant schools such as Beslan and whose hero was a kiddy diddling professional slaver.

While I wish reason could prevail, looking at all the argument between folks.."If one rose from the dead they would not believe him ". Fortunately , nature itself seems to be getting involved. To bad it requires disaster to bring us to our senses. From what I hear more folks than ever doubt global warming. "They shall be eating and drinking and marrying until the very last day". This for folks like Nonamearisto :). Don't bother..I know..I'm an idiot in your eyes. Just referencing your avatar ...

Mr. Hedges pitch on the reasonableness of socialism will perhaps find better reception in Norway or Sweden, where state reasoned fat welfare checks work with a fair degree of success for the past 200 years.
