well I actually knew that and thats what I meant, it will turn into a red giant... I mean what is an explosion besides the rapid expansion of gas? What is the formation of a red giant but the expansion of the gas which composes the sun?
believe it or not, they wanted an accurate measurement of the force of the bomb so in order to get a reading out to someone they made a land bridge, with a long tunnel filled with helium so that the vibrations could move through the air faster to a recording station at the end of the tunnel which immidiately sent a transmission to a near by ship. to give you a sense of how fast this happened, the station was destroyed in 0.24 seconds...
While nuclear weapons may be the possible cause of human extinction, It won't ever be the cause the destruction of nature; sure our eco-system will be radically altered but the earth has existed for 5 billion years and even a million years (more than enough time to dissapate the radiation) is only one five thousanths of this, that and the sun will eventually explode and reshape our place in the galaxy, so really this isn't an issue of destruction of life but destruction of humanity.
That isn't exactly what I meant. Mutually assured destruction. Drop one on another country with a nuclear bomb and they will do the same to you. If a nuclear armed country drops one on a non-nuclear armed country then they can be assured the other nuclear armed countries won't be too happy.
The bombs brought about one good thing, though. There is never going to be another war between world powers. Or if there is, it's going to be the last war ever fought.
