Riding fixed without brakes is fun you just gotta learn how to skid or stop using your quads. Also not having brakes gives you the advantage to do barspins those are fun. I personally like the tricks on fixed. It's a nice fun and productive hobby I think. As for hipsters.... Idk let them be I guess

hip or not, "fixies" are cool...if they're actually recycled bikes. Paying $400 for a bike you could make for around $100 is pretty lame. Most old bikes just need a new wheelset - the rest can be cleaned up, lubed, tightened and reused.
I just put some deep Vs on an donated old, rotting 1985 nishiki (spokes were breaking off). Cost me $120. I also took off all the derailleurs (I know nothing about adjusting them). Ends up a perfectly good bike for getting some exercise on the flats.

I have nothing against hipsterism.. I just don't care for the culture itself. The fixies, Macs, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and flannel shirts aren't bad though XD
