Ian told David Smith, Myra's brother in law that he had killed people and buried them on the moors but David didn't believe him. This is shown in the film. Later, David told the polce this, and about Ian/Myra packing his and their "incriminating evidence" into suitcases and driving them away - also shown in the film. The police found the suitcases. Their contents - torture tape and obscene photographs of a child - and Ian's boast were what made the police make the connection.
The bloke they kill with the axe @ Myra's Grandmothers home IS "EDWARD EVANS"...for the interest of the person below asking!! Good account from the info given by Myra's Sister & David Smith (her fella)...not the best Film, etc about "THE MOORS MURDERS" but Sean Harris & Maxine Peak play them close enough!!
@ashleyporciuncula this was a 2 part mini series on Uk tv and it was taken for the first time from the position of david smith and myras sister maureen, david witnessed the murder of edward evans and along with maureen contacted the poilce and started the investigation and arrest of ian and myra,it was the first time it was taken from there perspective,i thought it was a brilliant series and the actress who played maureen was amazing in this.
The timing in which this film takes place is very odd. I feel like this is more of a "part 2" of a miniseries instead of a film that is meant to stand alone. If a viewer had no prior knowledge of this case, it would be very confusing. The Moors Murders were about the children, not this one victim. Maybe there's a different standard for showing crimes against children in the UK than there is here in the US? Otherwise this feels like a film about the murder of one man, not multiple killings.
Dave's wife is clueless to everything, but seems she is in the back of the police cars and at the police station more than Dave or Myra. They keep toting her around at every turn.....so she can hold Dave's hand I guess.
How are the police so sure that Ian killed the kids? How are they putting it together? Just b/c Ian killed that one man in front of David, why would that link Ian/Myra to the deaths of the 3-4 kids that are missing?
After they find the suitcases, that is the proof, but prior to that there seems no clear connection.
What portion did they talk about Edward Evans? Here they say his parent came and id'd the body, is he the "businessman" (who was actually an "apprentice") that they killed at Myra's grandmother's house in front of Dave?
i know that David Smith got arrested and framed by Brady and Hindley but i didnt know Maureen got arrested and all
