  • We spray about 150,000 acres in a season....2 airplanes and 2 helicopters....we bring in out of state help too. Those ag turns are how I was taught, I know there are many ways to skin the cat but it's the way I learned as the most efficient.....about 6 second turns spray off to spray on......big difference from our airplanes. Yes cross row spraying isn't the most fun but like you said sometimes it's the best way to do it. nnagflar, glad you liked the video......i like the first song better.

  • yes, ideally you try and fly with the rows as that is easier but sometimes the wind isn't conducive to it. I always am trying to be in a position to make my turns upwind and this day the wind favored me flying across the rows. It's more challenging but I do have a lightbar on the dash that helps me line up the swath and it tells me whether or not i'm off to the right or left of my line in increments of feet, so that's my reference for a situation like this video. Thanks for the comment!!!

  • Congrats on the turbine transition JC. I am flying a BIII in this video as well, it's a great machine for ag flying. To answer your question, it's pretty much initiated by some aft cyclic to slow and climb. Collective as needed but not much in the initial part of the turn. Also slight cyclic in the direction of the turn. A little peddle to help it around but not much. More collective required half way through the turn as helicopter wants to fall through. All this initiated at about 60mph.

  • it's a mix of collective and cyclic and pedal changes continuously....power constantly changing primarily in the turns.

  • doing 2 gallon work we will use .05/.06 flat fans by cp with the bigger orifice on the tip...we will do some 4-5 gal. work and use .10 for that.

  • The name of the song is "Kick it in the sticks" by Brantley Gilbert.

  • very impressive . what do you use for a GPS/Mapping ?

  • @MrTizzle75 Wow, decent size operation. What's the name of the company? Also with those turns it looks like you're running the race track pattern or whatever satloc calls it. Doesn't appear to be back to back. Not knocking the turns, whatever works obviously. I was taught the higher the better for safety reasons. About 10 seconds spray off to on. How many gallons you carry? Lots of questions, haha! Just curious.

  • Nice video. Lame song.

  • Interesting ag turns... How many acres you guys fly in a season? Cross row crap is annoying depending on the shape of the field.

  • What do you use as a reference ? Shouldn´t it be easier to fly along the tracks beetween the crops ? Great video and awesome flying, love the 180 turns ! :)

  • OUTSTANDING!!! I just transitioned into a turbine - Bell 206 BIII to be exact. How do you get your turns so tight??? Are you pulling back on the cyclic then adjusting collective as needed while pressing the pedals or do you pull collective first??? I'd really appreciate you walking me through that process!!
