Beau Brummell: This Charming Man (2006)

The wickedly handsome James Purefoy stars in this drama about the notorious dandy Beau Brummell. Forerunner of today's celebrity culture, Brummell became famous for his impeccable dress sense and connections with the right people, including the Prince Regent.
Credited with making a less flashy and more elegant style of dress fashionable, the beautifully cut clothing that he made popular is seen as an early version of the suit. Having risen to a height of popularity, however, descent was swift. Brummell died penniless in France, having lost the favour of the Prince.

  • Thanks for the great uploads but what happened to part 9?

  • No finale, Bother!

  • @gorramlaw

How interesting. I suspect that the idea was to save the trouble of carrying gold coins. There were undoubtedly many attempts of forgeries. These notes look pretty primitive.

  • @tnakai1971jp Banknotes have been issued by the Bank of England for over three hundred years. Standard ten pound notes were issued in the mid 1700s and during Brummell's golden years on the London scene, £1, £2 and £5 notes were in use. In Regency times, the phrase "a roll of soft" was used to describe a wad of banknotes. So now you know! :-D

  • What I find surprising is that banknotes appear in this drama. So, the Bank of England was already printing money at the time?

  • Where is Part 9?

  • Handsome Wonderful James is so a gentleman.
