Here's a tribute to one of the most legendary steam engines... IN AMERICA!!!1! (Sorry, joneau261... couldn't resist :P )

The Norfolk & Western 611 was built in 1950 and was part of the Norfolk Southern Steam Program from 1982 to 1994. Today, she rests at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, VA, awaiting another rebirth. In this video, I get to "interview" 611 about her past, present and her possible future.

Special Thanks to ConrailSD40 for voicing 611 (You might have to higher your volume because the lines are rather quiet) and this video is dedicated to her as well :)

ENJOY, ONE AND ALL!

  • can you do one on 1218?

  • @TheTrainman4449 - idk really... depends, but special tributes will be done this year for Amtrak and SP 4449 :)

  • I thought her final run was in December of '95

  • @boberttrain831 - Nope, her final move under steam was on December 7th, 1994. She was moved cold to the VMT in 1995.

  • Nicely done! One minor correction is the last run was on October 24, 1959. The trip was from Roanoke to Williamson and return.

  • @VgnRy43 - Thanks for the correction :) Sorry for getting the date wrong. :P I got the photo of the last run from "Steam's Camelot" by Trains Magazine editor Jim Wrinn.

The book entails the history of the Southern/NS Steam Program from the last trip of 611 in 1959, to her final run in 1994. Quite the read! :) :)
