BELOVED;
THE SERMON ON THE PLAIN

One of many sermons Jesus gave soon after He chose the 12 disciples and began His ministry. As He did then He does now with us: "You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you" John 15:16. This is a great comfort. He not only called us but He is responsible for us. Jesus prayed the entire night to His Father before making His choices. We can learn from this alone.

During this Sermon on The Plain, in many respects repeated in other sermons He gave such as Sermon on The Mountain, multitudes were healed without asking nor yet believing on Him. He displayed the power of God, NOT for money or status, He was homeless and poor, but as God had given Him power and authority, He demonstrated it to those curious people who came out to see this man. They did nothing to be healed. They gave nothing in return. He was not a faith healer they saw, but He healed by His faith in Almighty GOD.

In summary we will find that true servants of God are NOT rich in this world, nor respected, and suffer many troubles and rejections. He tells us how the lost world loves the rich, covets wealth, respects showy "religious" leaders, is overjoyed in it's false sense of material security, and patronizes those "ministers" who present a flowery sermon where the utter lost state of mankind is never the Topic Of The Day.

In the church itself we find the true gospel sugar coated and hidden in all te self serving sermons that keep the congregation asleep and comfortable. When the bowl is passed they always pay their dues for such falsity. James makes that point well:

James 5
"1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth eaten.

3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days."

We are to build our earthly house on THE ROCK. We are not of this world that has built it's security on things that have no lasting value, indeed, are the very sources of lies and all that God hates. We are sinners before God. And on this ROCK who is Christ and His truth God builds His church and provides what we all need in this brief life in Christ Jesus The Lord.

1 Corinthians.
"11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ."
