On March 5th, 2009 a Ribbon Cutting was held to celebrate Rising Above as the recipient of the lease free home donated by Centron Group of Companies. In the fall of 2008, Centron put out a call for proposals from non-profit organizations in Grande Prairie for the use of one of their homes. Rising Above was the recipient of the home and will open now be able to open their second women's shelter in the community. Rising Above is affiliated with North Country Community Chruch and they are commited to assisting men and women who are having difficulty acquiring and maintaining housing and employement. Rising Above provides a safe and free place to live, assistance with building a resume & job-readiness skills, life-skill training and volunteering opportunities. Since the beginning of their program they have housed 52 men and 5 women in the Grande Prairie community.
