The Eye-in-the-Sea uses far red light to observe animals and behaviors unobtrusively. Here a giant six-gill shark attacks a glowing optical lure. The lure is a ring of 16 blue light emitting diodes (LEDs) that are programmed to imitate certain bioluminescent displays. In this case a single LED emits a persistent glow.
