This is the ending of a great "song"... most people think it will never come to them but it does sooner or later. Enjoy your world, your life and joy while you have it and it has you.

One of the most underrated singers of this generation, a unique sound, you know exactly who it is after a few words...thanks for this masterpiece and the memories, Jimmie....

I love this song by Jimmie Rodgers. I have several of his CDs. He was one of the best singers to come out of the 60's. I remember when he went through that assaut and caused him to end his career so abruptly. I would love to read his new book, but I can't find it in any bookstore.

@charlescordova Well said, Charles. I'm now reading Jimmie's autobiography, a story that is as "sad & beautiful" as any of his songs. His life has been that of a superb & sensitive artist betrayed by the people around him. No singer has ever achieved as much, received so little, suffered more, and been less appreciated than James Frederick ("Jimmie") Rodgers, the father of folk-rock music. His courage & tenacity in overcoming the brutal LAPD assault that ended his career, is truly heroic.

@TheGranule The "enemies" Jimmie Rodgers made were exploitve, thieving, intimidating mobsters like Morris Levy of Roulette Records who told him, "Kid, you either get hits or you get hit" & then never paid him royalties for the dozens of Top 40 chart hits that Rodgers recorded. The label was a front for the Genovese crime family & when they threatened Rogers' family life, he walked out of his contract, refusing to further record for free. They then put a hit on him, crushing his skull.

Rodgers made some enemies. They set him up. He was savagely beaten by LA police. It resulted in brain damage. It ended his career.
There were no witnesses to the beating, it was done under a bridge.
Gentle memories such as this song provides..........remain safely tucked away, deep in the corners of a heart who remembers and is grateful.
Jimmie Rodgers was there when many were growing up in a much kinder world than exists today.
A world we used to know.

First heard this on a jukebox in Spain when I was 22, and I thought it was a beautiful song by a beautiful voice. Hadn't heard it since then. Now I'm 67 and this song and Jimmie Rodgers' voice still touch my heart in a sad, beautiful, inexpressible way.
