Part 3 of 6. In 1995, PBS (& Hugh Thompson & Robert Palmer, the critic not the musician) produced a comprehensive series on the history of rock and roll. While there were other documentaries produced at that time with the same name, this one is superior & harder to find. In this, part 7 of the series, the filmmakers examine the impact of Andy Warhol & the Velvet Underground on The Doors, Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Alice Cooper. They describe how glam became more theatrical, leading to bands like Kiss. The scenes with the fans are priceless...!

  • very interesting documentary, which makes a very good connection between the Protopunk of the Stooges and VU and the Glam scene in England and America.

  • The Stooges were pile drivers of Rock 'n' Roll.

  • Ha! David was definitely trying to shake things up when he said he was gay....but then he tried to get Mick Ronson to declare the same thing - to continue the shock trend....and Mick was so ticked off, he quit the band! (And thankfully, came back again....or rock history would be QUITE different) RIP Mick Ronson.

  • Alice Cooper is great! I'm glad he's still around.

  • I've got the very same documentary as this but with British commentary. Strange!

  • really wonderful documentary, thanks so much for posting!
