This is a video I made for my First Year design class at Elam. Everyone got given a sheet of paper with a task on it, mine was to "make content in (for) a blank space". With that task, we were to go away and do whatever the hell we wanted in about a weeks time.
I thought about blank space like a mind, or a life, or a new house. I thought about everything we learn in our lives that shapes us as humans - our personalities, egos, habits, fears, likes, dislikes etc... We have ideas about things and about people, about everything. It's the baggage we carry around with us, that is our content. From house to house, interactions with people, with life. The content is the company we keep, the objects we hoard - you know, the stuff your nana gives you every christmas but you can't seem to find the guts to throw away. The pieces of paper and the dried flowers from lovers long past, words they've said that you keep in your brain because if you forget, you lose a piece of you. I could go on for hours...
We're hoarders..and it's not a bad thing. I just thought it was interesting. Romantic perhaps.
I hope you like it,
Alex
