More highlights from my "NightLife Show" which ran on local cable TV in FL from 1980-1986. This condensed 2-part episode features the first night launch of a space shuttle: STS-8 Challenger launch on August 30, 1983. Kerry introduces the launch from the Kennedy Space Center earlier in the day. A clip from a NASA film about Apollo 11 is shown. Part Two concludes with the night launch of Challenger in 1983 at 2:32 in the morning.
Air Date: October 14, 1983

  • No wonder you did not hear about people stealing a lot of VCRs back in '83. Too heavy to lift :)

  • Hahaha...had to be a 2-man job back then!

  • Especially the 3/4 inch tape models used back then in video production...didn't you guys know about Betamax? ;) I worked at a TV studio in the early 1990's that used all Betamax/betacam...3/4 inch was for commercials by advertisers who refused to succumb to modernity :)

  • Actually that is an early Apollo and Skylab Saturn IB, not a Saturn V at the very opening of the show.

  • Great stuff Kerry thank you so much for posting, first time I ever heard this countdown and the sound from where you recorded was much louder than the NASA tape. The mix of all the audio withthe Saturn V films is brilliant.

  • i wish i was there to see that neat!!!!!!!!!!!!
