Man, there's some instruments where there's no doubt: Edgar Meyer on bass, Jerry Douglas on dobro, Chris Thile...but I have to make a distinction to fit in Mark O'Connor as the best violin player and Duncan as the best Fiddler. And of course, ultimately these distinctions ARE subjective and the artists and the music give so much joy it's dumb to argue points like "best".
But Stuart Duncan is the best. ;-D

Stuart Duncan is the best fiddler in any musical genre, but he is the ultimate as far as bluegrass music. What a talent! Thanks for posting this one :)

Oh my wish I could play fiddle like that !!! awesome ..:)
-
Is it even possible to find sheet music for this..?
-
He is one hot fiddler. The double stops aren't the hard part, it's all those 16th notes at a tempo above 160 bpm - figure more than 10 notes per second for long stretches. Try it at home. Plenty of classical violinists affectionately refer to their instrument as a fiddle, but not many folk musicians would do the reverse.

He's playing a load of double stops, it's like lead guitar, it's a format. And it's a violin, not a fiddle. I hate that word.

There is no better fiddle player

He's so incredible, one of the very best..... 99% of fiddlers don't sound this good!
-
I didn't know fiddles could make sounds like that.

What am I doing wrong? He makes it look so easy!
