A Rutgers player (Eric Legrand #52) injured making a tackle on a kickoff return sustained a horrific neck injury that has left him paralyzed below the neck. Rutgers coach Greg Schiano says defensive tackle Eric LeGrand is resting in the intensive care unit at Hackensack University Medical Center and will remain there for the near future. LeGrand had emergency surgery overnight to stabilize the spine.
Schiano, who had tears in his eyes during his press conference following Rutgers 23-20 overtime win over Army, talked to his team around noon on Sunday

knowing that ive been playin fooball for like 10 or 11 years now cuz im 15 and i started at flag, this is why you never lead with your head your supposed to get proper leverage keeps your hips low wrap around ball cariers waste and wrap them up with your head up remember the bigger they are the lower you tackle to get them down take out thier legs feet or abdomen if you lead with your head this is the risk you are taking and it honeslty makes me mad that people are still leading with the head.

It's terrible that this happened, but coaches should teach players not to lead with their heads, because this kind of thing happens.

pretty memoriable day, although I recall being more interested in the stadium than in the game itself. Rutgers games are usually played at Rutgers (High Point Solutions) Stadium, in Piscataway. This game was unusual in that it was played at Meadowlands (Metlife) Stadium, and it was the only time I've ever been in there. (This stadium replaced the old Giants Stadium, and so I was fascinated with that place.)
