My faithful tribute to a true classic! All guitars and vocals are by me. Trying my best to sound like Halford was a real effort, I felt pretty raw by the end lemme tell you.

Enjoy!

  • Nice job! I really gotta give it to you on the vocals, you really do manage to sound just like Rob. I'm actually more skeptical about the guitar work, though...I'm not a fan of when people improvise the first solo, just because Glenn does such a legendary job on it that I don't think any improvisation can compare to it. Your guitar tone also seems really light to me, perhaps something a little stronger would suit the solo better!

  • Yeah, the first solo is a hard one to live up to...I think if I'd taken more time over it I could've played it more faithfully, but I did all the guitar in one afternoon, and all the vocals the next afternoon. As for the tone...well, that's pretty much just how I like it! I know it's a bit less gainy than most metal players would have it but I like the note definition.

  • not bad at all...vocals aren't perfect, but these days, Halford sounds like a dying baby choking on an oversized tadpole, so they were pretty good.. lol

  • not to bad man

  • need a bassist?

  • i think the rhythm part should of had more distortion but the solo's tone is a keeper

  • Great cover. The vocals could use a bit of work, though. Your voice here would better fit their pre-painkiller albums, it's just too cleanly sung and a bit soft for the Painkiller album. Would love to hear your voice covering Beyond the Realms of Death or Screaming for Vengeance. And the guitar tone sounds a bit off, too, a bit too deep for the music.

  • I started learning that solo over two years ago, and still don't have it perfected yet! Though I haven't played it in a while, I must say I'm much happier to be that close to being able to play the real thing, because like I said, no mere improvisation can stand up to it.

If you like the tone that way, all I can say is suit yourself. Every player has his own taste, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a common complaint from your audiences.

  • Great job. Did you play guitar and did vocals at the same time or did you record them separately?

Doing both at the same time is a huge challenge. Awesome vocals, I know how this song is hard to sing. 5 stars and favourited.

  • no worries

  • ima keep practicing, thanks bro

  • if you work it enough it can become pretty loud.

I used to sound soft when i hit the higher notes, but now it just sounds badass, it helps if you put some nose into it, gives it more of a base and gives it that halford-esque sound.
