As of 1800 hrs Sunday 28 March this piece of track in no longer the ''Waiuku extension''. It is now a fully operational part of the GVR, covered by all the rules and regulations of the railway. A very historic day for the railway. It has taken about 15 years of work to get to this point.

It is hoped unofficial trains for members will run down the line during. Easter. The line should be opened to the public in October

As of 21 Feb. ballast has been laid from under the bridge to around about the start of the big curve.

i heard that they are looking at an easter weekend run on the new line?????? is it true???? would be great if it was!!! anyone heard anything????

Looking good. I haven't been up to have a look myself, but I helped pre-bend some of the rail before it was laid... and will be on some of the locos going down there. should be fun!

cool. bit of a good grade climbing up from the bottom of the curve will be good to watch the locos steaming up from there from the bridge good photo & video spot.
