linseed does yellow, even more so than other oils like walnut or safflower

No you are wrong! The oil does not evaporate it reacts with the oxegen in the atmosphere to create a new substance. If it evaporated glazing would not be possible. Also Linseed oil does yellow over time particulary if its kept in the dark.
